What’s New?

It’s been a very long time.

I’ve been working on editing my book, but, on a lark I entered a writing contest. A rhyming short story contest. I love writing poetry so I figured, what the heck?

The contest is highly organized and lots of folks enter. Like an Olympic race, you’re organized into groups with a theme, a problem, and an emotion. A specific number of ‘winners’ are selected from each group and move on to the next heat.

I was selected for the second heat. Yay!!!

The day I had to write my story, I stepped onto our front porch to retrieve a package that had been delivered. It was covered in ice. Yes, my feet slid out from under me and I fell, with a resounding thud, onto the concrete.

I did not smack my head on the porch, get a concussion, or break my neck. Yay.

I did not break my tailbone or my back. Yay, again.

I did, however, break my left wrist. Ugh.

I also spent the day in urgent care both regular and orthopedic. I spent the next week in an over-the-elbow cast with black-and-blue sausages for fingers and a very painful backside. An unbroken butt on the pavement still feels horrid.

So much for the second heat of the contest. The good news is I’m healing and I’m now in a short cast. In the middle of January I’ll be in my annual short story contest. With what I’ve learned during the rhyming contest, maybe I can get to the second heat in the short story contest.

At least I’ll be able to type more fluidly by then.

Want to read my rhyming story? It’s in the story section of this site. Enjoy!
